Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

What do CPR, AED, BLS, AHA and HeartCode mean?

CPR is cardiopulmonary resuscitation. An AED is an automated external defibrillator. BLS is Basic Life Support, the CPR course for healthcare providers. AHA is the American Heart Association, whose courses we teach. HeartCode BLS is the AHA’s online part of blended BLS; it still needs the hands-on skills test to complete.

Why an American Heart Association course instead of another provider?

The American Heart Association publishes the CPR and emergency cardiovascular care guidelines that its courses teach, so you learn the same steps the guidelines call for. AHA BLS Provider certification is widely accepted and commonly required by healthcare employers, including hospitals, clinics and other medical settings. Every AHA course ends with an official AHA eCard you can show your employer or school. If yours names a specific credential, confirm it with them before you book.

What’s the difference between BLS and Heartsaver CPR AED?

AHA BLS is for healthcare workers, nursing students and others who need AHA BLS Provider certification. AHA Heartsaver CPR AED is for parents, caregivers, teachers, childcare staff and nonclinical workplace participants. If your school or employer names a specific course, book that one.

Does the Infant & Toddler Choking + CPR workshop give me a certification?

No. It is a live 60-minute Zoom workshop for families: education only, with no hands-on skills assessment, certificate or AHA eCard. It is $29 per household for up to two adults. If you need a CPR card for work or school, book AHA Heartsaver CPR AED instead.

AHA Heartsaver CPR AED
Should I book the complete in person class or online plus in person skills?

A complete in person class covers all of your training and the required hands-on assessment in one visit, with no online course to buy: AHA BLS is 3 hours for $94, AHA Heartsaver CPR AED is 2 hours 30 minutes for $92. Online plus in person skills means you finish the AHA online course first, then come in for your hands-on skills session: BLS is $97 total ($59 skills session + $38 AHA HeartCode BLS), Heartsaver is $97.50 total ($78 skills session + $19.50 AHA online course). Either way you earn the same AHA eCard.

Is my online completion certificate the same as an eCard?

No. The online completion certificate only shows you finished the online part. The official credential is the AHA eCard, issued after you also pass the hands-on skills assessment with us.

I’m renewing my BLS. Which course do I book?

Renewals can choose either BLS option: the complete in person class, or online plus in person skills. First-time students can choose either one too.

How long are the classes?

AHA BLS Complete In Person Class runs 3 hours. AHA Heartsaver CPR AED Complete In Person Class runs 2 hours 30 minutes. The in-person skills session is 90 minutes for BLS online and 1 hour for Heartsaver online.

How many people are in a class?

Small classes, 3 students max, so everyone gets hands-on time and personal attention.

How do I get in, and where do I park?

Park in the municipal garage across the street. Enter 30 Union St through the front door. Unit 24 is just inside on your left. Look for the “Daylight CPR” sign on the door. If the front door is locked, call or text (201) 486-5877 and we’ll let you in.

Contact and directions
What should I bring?

For online plus in person skills, bring or email your online course completion certificate to info@daylightcpr.com. Your course book is the AHA BLS Provider Manual for BLS, or the AHA Heartsaver CPR AED Student Workbook for Heartsaver, in print or as an eBook. Ask us if you’re not sure which edition you need.

When do I get my AHA eCard?

Your eCard is issued after you successfully complete the course, including the hands-on skills assessment. It is not issued for the online part or attendance alone.

Will my employer or school accept it?

Please confirm with your employer or school which credential they require. AHA BLS Provider is common in healthcare, but no credential is guaranteed to meet every employer’s policy.

What if I need a refund or to reschedule?

Refunds and rescheduling are handled when you book. If you need to make a change, contact us and we’ll help.

Do you train groups and workplaces?
